The main difference between private and communal pet cremation lies in how the pet's remains are handled and returned:
Private Cremation: In private or individual cremation, a single pet is cremated in an individual chamber or designated area, ensuring that only that pet’s remains are collected. This method is chosen by pet owners who wish to have the ashes returned to them. Typically, the ashes are returned in an urn or another chosen keepsake. At Paws and Claws the owners have the opportunity to pick from urns and keepsakes in our show room or online in the pet parent portal.
Communal Cremation: In communal cremation, multiple pets are cremated simultaneously in the same chamber without physical separation. Since the ashes from different pets mix together, they cannot be returned to any individual owner. In most cases, the communal ashes are either scattered or buried in a dedicated memorial area, depending on the policies of the cremation facility. At Paws and Claws the ashes are scattered in a scenic woodland area.
Paws and Claws uses a tracking systems that includes a metal tag and RFID barcode that follows the pet through the complete process, to maintain a clear chain of custody. Private cremations provide ashes only from your pet. Ashes will be returned with he metal tag, and the pet can be tracked through the Angel Paw pet parent portal. Our system even allows the owner to get up-to-date notifications.
Owners can be present during to view the cremation from our designated area, through a viewing window. Please ask Paws and Claws for additional details.
